Social evils, if conveniently ignored and allowed to pile up would pose a grave threat to the existence and sustainability of the society. In under developed countries this threat is more fatal, lethal and dangerous. The main reason for this menace is lack of education. The well known jurists have very rightly described that these social evils, if allowed to spread, would grab the whole society into their circle. We have also seen that a society, or civilization where illiteracy prevails the social evils are very common and sooner or later the social system would collapse.
In the matter of religion this is the standard principle that the practice of religion should be rationalized, regulated and be allowed to follow in a proper system. The recent example of Taliban is an eye opener a very small number of religious fanatics allowed to preach their code of religion way back in early seventies have formed a shape of big problem which is posing threat to the writ of the state. Similarly the use or misuse of official status by the members of legislatives, bureaucrats and the influential members of our society have also gone so far where it looks very difficult to pull back, if not impossible. Now the lotacracy is not looked upon as an ugly practice but it is looked upon as a right step. The dirty game of politics being played in our country is the recent example of this evil. However, it is, heartening to note that the current attitude conduct and behaviour of our people have compelled our politicians to think over this particular practice. Now one can say that the masses have started thinking that those lotas are being rejected and discarded. The recent defeat of a famous family from central Punjab is a glaring example where such people have been disliked so much so they have lost their ancestral seat. The most painful aspect of social evil is the deviation and non-observance of traffic rules which have totally defaced our society on one hand and have changed the stance of our society which is based on the Islamic principles so much so the governments of other non-Islamic countries have openly started asserting and propagating that ours is the terrorist state. Our enemies are taking advantage of this situation. Now the sports teams and sports events which are lucrative now-a-days are reluctant to play and participate in the sports competitions being played in our country. It is also considered that in fact the vested interests have their role to play in the so-called religious struggle being carried on in the remote places of our un-educated and undeveloped province. Actually and factually these vested interests have to play their own game which is being played under the grab of religion and religious rites. In fact the customs play a typical role in the society. Apart from customs religions, family traditions and culture do play their own part in the society. If the evils prevailing in the society are allowed to spread these would form the social evils and it would be very difficult to stop them.
It is also painful to note that evils are spread from the elite of the society. You take any example, be it the approach, sifarash curbing the rights of less fortunate people everywhere you will find that those who belong to category of fortunate people they could twist the tail of people at the helm of affairs and such people, somehow or the other get their works done the ultimate result of practice would be that our society and social system would spoil and fell down. Slowly and gradually such people succeed in getting their jobs done and they develop a faith that their way of thinking the correct one hand and the other people follow them.
Since the writer belongs to below mediocre society he feels that only rich people could play the fate of other people; no doubt this is true but this could not be the standard rule the recent example of a rickshaw driver who used to ply rickshaw as a part timer besides studying in matric. Not only this the said boy stood third in the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary school examination securing 811 marks out of 850 marks. Our Chief Minister has very rightly patronized him by allocating five million rupees for his higher education, he really deserves this pat and very rightly he has been rewarded so.
Our judicial system has also its share in the downfall of the society. In fact the judicial system which is one of the pillars of modern society should be so crystal and transparent that every one in the society should have reasons to believe that justice is being done to them and they are being treated as par with others. Once the great caliph Hazrat Ali (R.A) had asserted that justice should not only be done but he should have reasons to believe that justice has been done to him. This could be the height of justice and judicious society. The present judicial system prevailing in our society has many if’s and but’s and needs a lot many improvements. The only draw back in the judiciary is the creditability of members of judicial system. The present tussle between the government and the judiciary is the worst example which has not only ridiculed the society within the country but also at international level.
It is also very painful to observe that our religion which is very straight and simple is being presented as a complicated, cumbersome and tedious. The masses in the street are justified in asking as to who is responsible for this state of affairs. Who should be blamed for this situation? Whether the members of the legislative, bureaucrats, judges or members of the clergy no body is ready to accept the responsibility and every one is very merely shifting the responsibility to other. But the fact remains there that every one has to play his role in his own style and see that none of them should cross his limit and does not pose his nose in the matters of others.
